What does it mean?
P1443 is a Powertrain (engine, transmission, fuel system) fault code. It indicates: Secondary Air Injection System Control Valve Circuit Bank 2 .
Symptoms
- MIL on and the secondary air readiness monitor incomplete
- Cold start emissions higher than normal, with a raw exhaust smell
- Bank 2 upstream oxygen sensor shows no lean shift while the pump runs
- Slightly uneven idle on cold start
- No click or movement from the Bank 2 valve when commanded
Likely causes
- Open, shorted or high resistance wiring in the Bank 2 control valve circuit
- Corroded or heat damaged connector at the Bank 2 valve
- Internally open or shorted valve solenoid winding
- Vacuum control line to the Bank 2 valve cracked or disconnected, on vacuum operated designs
- Valve seized by carbon build up, drawing abnormal current
- Blown fuse or failed relay feeding the Bank 2 valve
- Poor ground for the air injection control circuit
How to fix it
- Command the Bank 2 valve with a scan tool and listen for solenoid movement while watching the Bank 2 oxygen sensor response
- Inspect the valve connector for corrosion, melted plastic and loose terminals
- Measure the solenoid resistance and compare with specification and with the Bank 1 valve
- Verify supply voltage at the valve connector with the key on and check the relevant fuse and relay
- On vacuum controlled valves, check the control hose for cracks, collapse and disconnection
- Test continuity and short to ground on the control wire back to the PCM
- Replace the valve or repair the wiring, then confirm normal Bank 2 air delivery on a cold start
