What does it mean?
P1444 is a Powertrain (engine, transmission, fuel system) fault code. It indicates: Purge Flow Sensor Circuit Low Input .
Symptoms
- MIL on with the EVAP readiness monitor incomplete
- Purge flow value stuck at zero or at the minimum in live data
- Occasional rough idle if purge control is disabled and vapour flow is uncontrolled
- Fuel vapour smell in some cases
- No clear loss of engine power
Likely causes
- Signal wire shorted to ground in the EVAP harness
- Failed purge flow sensor element with no usable output
- Loss of the 5 volt reference supply to the sensor
- Corroded or water damaged sensor connector
- Chafed harness where it routes near the intake manifold or a bracket
- Blocked or disconnected hose at the sensor port, which some systems report as a low signal
- Poor sensor ground caused by a corroded ground point
How to fix it
- Read the purge flow sensor value in live data with the engine off and compare it against the expected rest value
- Check the 5 volt reference and the sensor ground at the connector with the key on
- Disconnect the sensor and see whether the reported voltage rises to the reference level, which points at the sensor itself
- Inspect the connector and harness for corrosion, water and chafing near the intake
- Test the signal wire for a short to ground with both the sensor and the PCM disconnected
- Inspect the purge hoses for blockage, collapse and disconnection at the sensor port
- Replace the purge flow sensor once the wiring and reference are proven, then complete an EVAP monitor drive cycle
