What does it mean?
P1449 is a Powertrain (engine, transmission, fuel system) fault code. It indicates: Engine oil pressure - mechanical control solenoid sticking deactivated .
Symptoms
- MIL on and the oil pressure control function disabled, so the pump stays in one stage
- Oil pressure warning may flicker at hot idle in severe cases
- Slightly noisier valvetrain, particularly when the engine is hot
- Higher fuel consumption because the pump runs at high pressure permanently
- Timing related codes possible if variable valve timing depends on the same oil supply
Likely causes
- Sludge or varnish inside the solenoid spool preventing free movement, usually from extended oil change intervals
- Wrong oil viscosity or degraded oil that cannot actuate the control circuit properly
- Metal debris or a clogged filter screen at the solenoid, blocking oil flow
- Electrical fault in the solenoid control circuit: open, short or corroded connector
- Failed solenoid winding with abnormal resistance
- Worn or damaged oil pump control mechanism inside the pump
- Low oil level, so the pump draws air and the pressure signal is implausible
How to fix it
- Check the oil level and condition first, and confirm the correct viscosity is fitted for this engine
- Read live data for commanded and actual oil pressure and compare them across engine speed and temperature
- Verify the actual pressure with a mechanical gauge before blaming any electrical part
- Inspect the solenoid connector for corrosion, oil contamination and loose terminals
- Measure the solenoid winding resistance and test the control wire for continuity and shorts
- Remove the solenoid and clean or replace it, checking its filter screen for debris
- Change the oil and filter with the specified grade, then clear the code and confirm the control function stays active during a road test
