What does it mean?
P1618 is a Powertrain (engine, transmission, fuel system) fault code. It indicates: Interactive Reprogramming Code - Block Programming Error, Low Voltage .
Symptoms
- MIL (check engine lamp) on immediately after a programming attempt
- The module may not start the engine at all, or run only partially
- No communication or intermittent communication with the affected module
- Limp mode with functions missing
- Repeated programming attempts failing at the same point
- Several other modules storing communication codes at the same time
Likely causes
- Battery voltage dropped during the flash because no stabilised programming supply was connected
- A plain trickle charger used instead of a proper programming power supply
- Programming interrupted: cable pulled, a door opened waking modules, or the ignition cycled
- Weak battery or a failing charging system before the session started
- Poor grounds causing a voltage drop under the load of the programming session
- Wrong or corrupted calibration file for the module part number
- Faulty diagnostic interface cable or a poor connection at the diagnostic socket
How to fix it
- Connect a proper programming power supply that can hold voltage steady under load, not a simple charger
- Load test the battery and check the charging output before retrying the session
- Clean and torque the battery terminals and the main grounds
- Switch off all electrical loads, keep the doors closed and do not touch the ignition during the flash
- Use a direct, solid diagnostic cable connection; avoid extension leads and wireless links when programming
- Retry the block programming with the correct calibration file for the exact part number
- If the module still refuses programming with confirmed good voltage and the correct file, the module itself is at fault
