What does it mean?
P1703 is a Powertrain (engine, transmission, fuel system) fault code. It indicates: Low Clutch Timing Control Solenoid Valve Circuit Malfunction .
Symptoms
- MIL on with a transmission warning light
- Harsh or slipping engagement when pulling away from a stop
- Shift shock or flare between the lower gears
- Transmission dropping into limp mode and holding one gear
- Delayed engagement when selecting drive or reverse
- Judder or unusual noise under light load
Likely causes
- Open winding or internal short in the low clutch timing control solenoid
- Damaged wiring or corroded terminals in the solenoid circuit inside the transmission
- Transmission fluid wicking into the case connector and up the harness
- Contaminated or burnt fluid clogging the solenoid valve and its screen
- Solenoid valve mechanically stuck from debris or varnish in the valve body
- Poor supply or ground to the transmission module output stage
- Failed transmission module driver for that solenoid
How to fix it
- Check transmission fluid level, colour and smell before any electrical testing
- Command the solenoid with the scan tool while watching current draw and the pressure response in live data
- Measure the solenoid winding resistance at the transmission case connector and compare with specification
- Test the circuit for open, short to ground and short to battery positive with the module disconnected
- Inspect the case connector and internal harness for fluid intrusion, corrosion and pushed-out pins
- Replace the solenoid or the solenoid pack if its resistance is out of specification or it will not respond hydraulically
- If the electrical side is good, inspect the valve body for stuck spools and debris and service the filter and fluid
