What does it mean?
B1739 is a Body (airbags, seat belts, body electronics) fault code. It indicates: Manufacturer-Specific Body ECU Fault .
Symptoms
- Several unrelated body faults appear together: lighting, wipers, central locking, windows or interior lamps behaving oddly
- Warning lamps or messages in the cluster that do not match any single component
- The module drops off the diagnostic network intermittently or cannot be reached at all
- Occasional no-start, loss of accessory power, or functions that come back after an ignition cycle
- Parasitic battery drain because the module will not go to sleep
Likely causes
- Weak or failing battery and unstable system voltage, which body modules react to badly
- Poor or corroded module ground point, or a loose main connector at the module
- Water reaching the module in its footwell, kick panel or under-dash location
- Voltage spike from an incorrect jump start, welding on the vehicle or a reversed battery connection
- Corroded or backed-out pins in the module connectors after previous repair work
- Software or configuration data that is out of date or corrupted, sometimes after an interrupted programming session
- Genuine internal electronic failure of the control unit
How to fix it
- Test the battery and charging system; low or noisy voltage causes false module faults
- Scan every module on the vehicle and record the whole code set, not just this one
- Check and clean the module ground points and verify the supply fuses and voltage at the module connector
- Remove the module connectors and inspect for green corrosion, water tracks, spread or backed-out pins
- Check the module location for damp carpet, a leaking cabin filter housing, windscreen or door seal
- Check whether an updated calibration or reprogramming is specified for the unit and apply it as the manufacturer directs
- Replace and configure the control unit only after supply, grounds, wiring and software have been ruled out
