What does it mean?
P1361 is a Powertrain (engine, transmission, fuel system) fault code. It indicates: Ignition Coil Circuit Primary Malfunction - Cylinder 1 .
Symptoms
- Misfire on cylinder 1 with a distinct shake felt at idle
- Check engine light on and flashing when the misfire is heavy
- Hesitation, loss of power and poor acceleration
- Fuel smell at the exhaust and higher consumption
- Starting difficulties, often worse when the engine is cold or damp
Likely causes
- Cylinder 1 coil with a primary winding that is open, shorted or has drifted out of specification
- Damaged or corroded coil control wire between the module and the coil
- Coil connector loose, wet or with a spread terminal that makes intermittent contact
- Supply voltage missing at the coil because of a fuse, relay or feed harness fault
- Poor ignition system ground affecting the primary current path
- Coil breaking down only after it heats up, giving an intermittent fault
- Failed coil driver in the control module, assessed after the coil and wiring are proven
How to fix it
- Confirm which coil serves cylinder 1 and check for spark at that cylinder
- Inspect the connector, boot and plug well for oil, moisture, cracks and carbon tracking
- Measure primary resistance on the cylinder 1 coil and compare it against the other coils
- Verify supply voltage at the coil with the key on, then check the fuse and relay for the ignition circuit
- Test the control wire for continuity to the module and for shorts to ground or voltage while wiggling the harness
- If the fault is intermittent and heat related, warm the coil and repeat the tests
- Replace the coil if it fails, repair any wiring damage found, then clear the code and confirm normal operation
