What does it mean?
P1367 is a Powertrain (engine, transmission, fuel system) fault code. It indicates: Ignition Coilpack A Primary/Secondary Circuit Malfunction Open Circuit/Short to Ground .
Symptoms
- Misfire that becomes noticeably worse under load, up hills or in wet weather
- Check engine light on and flashing during heavy misfire
- Hesitation, stumble and reduced power on acceleration
- Rough idle and vibration transmitted through the vehicle
- Increased fuel consumption and a smell of unburnt fuel
Likely causes
- Coilpack breaking down under load or when hot, even though it tests acceptably when cold
- Carbon tracking on the pack towers or inside the boots, letting spark leak to ground
- Spark plug leads with high resistance, cracks or poor terminal contact
- Spark plugs beyond their service life, forcing higher secondary voltage
- Control wire between the module and the pack open or chafed to ground
- Moisture or oil in the coilpack connector, corroding the terminals
- Loose pack mounting bolts degrading the earth path through the bracket
How to fix it
- Reproduce the fault under load rather than at idle, since the pack may test fine when cold and unloaded
- Inspect the coilpack towers, leads and boots for tracking marks, cracks and oil contamination
- Measure primary and secondary resistance of the pack and compare with the specified values
- Check spark plug condition and gap on the cylinders served by this pack
- Test the control circuit for continuity and for a short to ground, wiggling the harness while measuring
- Clean and secure the pack mounting and ground, then retest
- Replace the coilpack, leads or plugs as the tests indicate, then confirm the misfire is gone under road-test load
