What does it mean?
P1364 is a Powertrain (engine, transmission, fuel system) fault code. It indicates: Cylinder 4 Ignition Circuit Open Circuit .
Symptoms
- Cylinder 4 does not fire, so the engine runs unevenly and vibrates at idle
- Check engine light on and flashing while the misfire is present
- Significant power loss, especially noticeable when pulling away
- Fuel smell at the tailpipe and increased consumption
- Longer than normal cranking and a rough idle once running
Likely causes
- Broken conductor in the coil control wire, often hidden under intact-looking insulation
- Coil connector not latched or a terminal that has retracted inside the housing
- Cylinder 4 coil with an open primary winding
- Corroded terminals after long-term moisture exposure in the plug well
- Open supply circuit caused by a blown fuse, failed relay contact or corroded feed splice
- Harness damaged during earlier engine work and repaired with a joint that has since failed
- Open at the module pin or an internally failed driver
How to fix it
- Check for spark and review misfire counters to confirm the problem is on cylinder 4
- Remove and inspect the coil connector for retracted terminals, corrosion and a broken lock tab
- Measure the coil primary resistance; an infinite reading confirms an open winding
- Confirm supply voltage is present at the coil with the key on
- Test continuity from the coil connector to the module pin, flexing the harness during the measurement
- Inspect any previous repair joints in this circuit, since a failed crimp is a common cause of an open
- Repair the wiring or fit a new coil, then clear the code and verify cylinder 4 contributes normally
