What does it mean?
P1362 is a Powertrain (engine, transmission, fuel system) fault code. It indicates: Ignition coil/amplifier, cylinder 3 - short to positive .
Symptoms
- Cylinder 3 misfires or stops firing, producing a noticeable shake at idle
- Check engine light on, flashing during periods of heavy misfire
- Reduced power, hesitation and rough running under acceleration
- Unburnt fuel smell from the exhaust and rising consumption
- Possible extra cylinder 3 misfire codes stored at the same time
Likely causes
- Control wire touching a powered circuit through worn or melted insulation
- Water or corrosion in the coil connector creating a path from the supply pin to the control pin
- Internal short inside the coil or amplifier between the feed and the switching side
- Harness pinched against a powered stud or terminal during previous work
- Faulty repair splice tying the control line into a power feed
- Damaged connector seal letting moisture collect in the plug body
- Module driver already damaged by the applied voltage
How to fix it
- Disconnect the cylinder 3 coil or amplifier and check the control wire for battery voltage with the key on
- Inspect the connector for water, corrosion and deposits between pins, then clean and dry it thoroughly
- Measure resistance between the coil supply and control terminals to find an internal short
- Inspect the harness between the coil and the module for pinched, melted or previously repaired sections
- Correct any faulty splice or reroute wiring that runs against powered terminals
- Repair the short first so a replacement coil or module is not immediately damaged
- Replace the coil or amplifier if it is internally shorted, then verify the control line switches correctly
