What does it mean?
P1712 is a Powertrain (engine, transmission, fuel system) fault code. It indicates: Pressure Switch Solenoid “E†Circuit High .
Symptoms
- MIL on with a transmission warning light
- Harsh, delayed or completely missing gear changes
- Transmission dropping into limp mode with a fixed gear
- Slipping or flaring between gears under load
- Higher engine speed at cruise because torque converter lock-up is disabled
- Increased fuel consumption and rising transmission temperature
Likely causes
- Open winding in the pressure switch solenoid or an open in its wiring
- Transmission case connector disconnected, or a terminal backed out of its cavity
- Short to battery positive on the control circuit
- Corrosion inside the case connector from fluid or moisture intrusion
- Failed internal transmission harness or lead frame
- Transmission module output driver failure keeping the circuit high
- Hydraulic pressure never reaching the switch because of low fluid or a clogged filter, so the switch never closes
How to fix it
- Check fluid level, colour and smell before starting any electrical test
- Read the pressure switch state in live data and command the solenoid with the scan tool
- Measure the solenoid winding resistance at the case connector against the specification; an open reading confirms the fault
- Test the control wire for continuity to the module and for a short to battery positive
- Inspect the case connector for fluid intrusion, corrosion and pushed-out pins
- Replace the solenoid or the internal harness if the winding is electrically open
- If the electrical side is good but pressure never develops, inspect the valve body and service the filter and fluid
