What does it mean?
P1713 is a Powertrain (engine, transmission, fuel system) fault code. It indicates: Pressure Switch Reverse Circuit .
Symptoms
- MIL on with a transmission warning light
- Delayed or completely missing reverse engagement
- Harsh bang when reverse is selected
- Vehicle unable to move backwards at all in severe cases
- Limp mode with a reduced range of gears
- Whining noise under load pointing at low line pressure
Likely causes
- Reverse pressure switch failed open or shorted internally
- Wiring fault between the switch and the transmission module: open, short to ground or short to battery positive
- Corroded case connector or an internal harness damaged by hot fluid
- Low line pressure in reverse from a worn pump, a clogged filter or low fluid level
- Leaking reverse clutch or servo seals so pressure never reaches the switch threshold
- Valve body spool stuck, preventing the reverse circuit from pressurising
- Module input circuit fault
How to fix it
- Check fluid level, colour and smell first, because low or burnt fluid explains most pressure switch complaints
- Watch the reverse pressure switch state in live data while selecting reverse with the engine running
- Measure the switch circuit for continuity, short to ground and short to battery with the module disconnected
- Inspect the case connector and internal harness for corrosion and fluid intrusion
- Perform a line pressure test in reverse and compare the reading against specification
- Replace the pressure switch if it fails to change state when pressure is applied
- Service the filter and fluid and inspect the valve body if the pressure is genuinely low
