What does it mean?
P1830 is a Powertrain (engine, transmission, fuel system) fault code. It indicates: Clutch Override Relay Control Circuit Malfunction .
Symptoms
- Check engine lamp on, often with no obvious driving symptom at first
- Intermittent no-start or a starter that engages only on a second attempt
- Clutch-related interlock behaving unpredictably
- Cruise control or related functions dropping out
- Transmission control defaulting to a protective strategy
Likely causes
- Open or shorted control wire between the module and the relay coil
- Relay coil open internally or its contacts welded closed
- Corroded, loose or heat-damaged relay socket terminals
- Blown fuse or lost feed on the relay supply circuit
- Poor ground for the relay or the module driver, giving an incorrect feedback voltage
- Water ingress in the relay box after a leaking seal
- Damaged output driver inside the control module
How to fix it
- Read the codes and check whether the fault is present or historic, using the freeze frame conditions
- Locate the relay, pull it and inspect the socket for burnt, spread or corroded terminals
- Test the relay coil resistance and its contact operation on the bench or by substituting a known-good identical relay
- Verify the supply feed and fuse at the socket with the key on
- Check the control wire from the module to the socket for continuity and for shorts to ground or battery
- Measure the relay ground circuit resistance and clean the ground point
- Replace the relay or repair the wiring as the tests show, and consider the module only when everything else is proven
