What does it mean?
P1832 is a Powertrain (engine, transmission, fuel system) fault code. It indicates: Pressure Control Solenoid Circuit High Input (5L40-E) .
Symptoms
- Check engine lamp on with a gearbox warning
- Extremely harsh, jolting shifts because the unit defaults to maximum line pressure
- A hard bump when engaging Drive or Reverse
- Limp mode with the transmission held in one gear
- Rising fluid temperature and clearly degraded drivability
Likely causes
- Open circuit in the solenoid control or feed wire, often at the case connector
- Solenoid winding open internally after thermal fatigue
- Backed-out, corroded or spread terminal in the case connector adding resistance
- Internal harness broken or its connector unlatched after previous service
- Loss of the solenoid supply from a failed relay, fuse or corroded splice
- Poor module ground so the driver cannot pull the circuit low
- Module driver stage open internally
How to fix it
- Read the codes and freeze frame and check fluid level and condition first
- Inspect the case connector for fluid, corrosion, backed-out pins and a loose lock
- Measure solenoid resistance from the external connector and compare it with specification; an infinite reading confirms an open
- Test continuity of the control and feed wires from the module connector to the case connector
- Check the solenoid supply voltage and its fuse or relay with the key on
- If external readings are correct, drop the pan and inspect the internal harness and solenoid terminals
- Replace the solenoid or repair the harness, then confirm commanded and actual line pressure agree on a road test
