What does it mean?
P1834 is a Powertrain (engine, transmission, fuel system) fault code. It indicates: Pressure Control Solenoid Circuit High Input (5L40-E) .
Symptoms
- Check engine lamp on with a transmission warning
- Harsh, jarring shifts and a heavy thump when a gear engages
- Shift quality that varies with temperature and vibration
- Limp mode holding one gear, sometimes clearing on restart
- Reduced drivability and increased fluid temperature
Likely causes
- Corroded or partially backed-out terminal at the case connector raising circuit resistance
- Solenoid winding developing an open when it expands with heat
- Poor crimp or a previous harness repair breaking down under vibration
- Loose internal harness connector at the solenoid after a valve body repair
- Damaged solenoid supply circuit, including its fuse or relay contacts
- High resistance in the module ground path
- Module driver output failing open
How to fix it
- Read all codes and the freeze frame, and check the fluid level and condition
- Inspect the case connector closely for green corrosion, spread terminals and a partly seated lock
- Measure solenoid resistance at the connector and compare with specification; a reading well above normal confirms the fault
- Perform a voltage drop test on the solenoid feed and ground while the circuit is commanded on
- Wiggle-test the external harness and any previous repair splices while watching the live data
- Drop the pan and inspect the internal harness and solenoid connector if the external side reads correctly
- Renew the solenoid or repair the connection found at fault, then confirm pressure control with a gauge
