Can I keep driving?

Usually drivable, but get it diagnosed without delay.

First step

Never test an initiator circuit with an ordinary multimeter, the measuring current alone can fire it.

What does it mean?

B1410 is a Body (airbags, seat belts, body electronics) fault code. It indicates: Passenger's (front) air bag module (1st squib) system fault 1 (short circuit between terminals of the squib circuit) .

Symptoms

  • Airbag warning lamp on continuously, sometimes flashing a set pattern at start up
  • Passenger front airbag is switched off and will not deploy in an impact
  • The fault appears immediately after dashboard, glove box or audio system work
  • The code cannot be erased and returns as a current fault on the very next ignition cycle
  • Passenger airbag status indicator, where fitted, behaves incorrectly

Likely causes

  • Crushed or pinched harness behind the glove box or under the dashboard after trim, audio or heater work
  • Connector that was not fully locked, so its internal shorting bar never released and keeps both pins bridged
  • Moisture, spilled drink or cleaning fluid inside the airbag module connector
  • Internal short in the passenger airbag inflator assembly
  • Repair splice made in the yellow SRS harness with the insulation nicked
  • Wrong airbag module fitted whose initiator resistance does not match what the module expects
  • Failed measuring circuit inside the SRS control unit itself

How to fix it

  1. Turn the ignition off, disconnect the battery and wait the specified reserve discharge period before touching the yellow connectors
  2. Unplug the passenger airbag module and inspect both halves of the connector for a jammed shorting bar, bent pins, moisture or dirt
  3. Reseat the connector fully until the lock clicks, then clear the code and see whether the fault stays away
  4. Check the harness route behind the glove box for pinch damage or crushed sections caused by recent repairs
  5. Use the manufacturer approved load tool or simulator in place of the airbag module to decide whether the fault lies in the wiring or in the module
  6. Replace the airbag module with the correct part number if the simulator proves the harness good
  7. Clear the stored codes with a scan tool, reconnect everything and confirm the lamp completes its normal self test and goes out
