What does it mean?
B1412 is a Body (airbags, seat belts, body electronics) fault code. It indicates: HFM Left Audio Output Circuit High .
Symptoms
- Loud hiss, whine or static from the left channel during hands free calls
- Caller audio distorted or completely unintelligible on that side
- The system may cut the call audio entirely to protect the output
- Voice prompts unusually loud or clipped on the left side
- Fault stored while the rest of the entertainment functions still work normally
Likely causes
- Chafed wire in the console or dash harness touching a switched power circuit
- Corrosion or spilled liquid bridging the audio pin to an adjacent supply pin in the module connector
- Open circuit toward the radio or amplifier, leaving the output unloaded and reading high
- Faulty input stage in the receiving audio unit no longer providing the expected load
- Internal driver fault inside the hands free module
- Aftermarket amplifier or accessory feeding a signal back into the factory audio link
How to fix it
- Read the codes and confirm with live data whether the module still reports the high state with the ignition on
- Inspect the hands free module connector for liquid damage, corrosion or pushed-in pins bridging to a supply terminal
- Unplug the module and check the left audio wire for voltage present with the ignition on; a signal line should not carry battery voltage
- Trace the harness through the console and behind the dash looking for chafe points against brackets and screws
- Disconnect the radio or amplifier and see whether the reading changes, which separates a wiring short from a load fault
- Repair the shorted wire or replace the damaged connector body rather than patching individual pins
- Replace the hands free module last, after the harness and the receiving audio unit have both been proven good
