What does it mean?
B1411 is a Body (airbags, seat belts, body electronics) fault code. It indicates: HFM Left Audio Output Circuit Low .
Symptoms
- Caller voice is missing from the left side during hands free calls while the right side still works
- Voice prompts and navigation announcements only come from one side of the cabin
- Call audio is very quiet, muffled or full of buzzing
- The system may refuse to route a call through the speakers and fall back to the handset
- Fault stored in the telematics or audio module with no other visible symptom
Likely causes
- Short to ground in the audio link between the hands free module and the radio or amplifier input
- Corroded or damp connector at the hands free module, which is often mounted low behind trim where water collects
- Chafed harness behind the centre console or under the carpet where it is walked on
- Loose or backed-out terminal producing a permanently low signal reference
- Faulty amplifier or head unit input stage loading the line down
- Internal output stage failure in the hands free module
- Aftermarket accessory spliced into the audio link and upsetting its level
How to fix it
- Read the stored codes and use live data to see how the module reports the left channel state
- Locate the hands free module and inspect its connector for water, corrosion, green terminals or a loose lock
- Unplug the module and measure resistance from the left audio output pin to ground; a healthy circuit is not shorted to ground
- Check continuity and insulation of that wire all the way to the radio or amplifier input, flexing the console harness while measuring
- Disconnect the receiving unit to establish whether the low reading comes from the source or from the load
- Repair the damaged wire or connector, dry the area and cure the water leak if corrosion is present
- Check for an available software update for the module, then replace the hands free module only if the wiring and the audio unit both test good
