What does it mean?
B1416 is a Body (airbags, seat belts, body electronics) fault code. It indicates: HFM Right Audio Output Circuit High .
Symptoms
- Loud static, whine or hiss from the right speakers during hands free calls
- Distorted or clipped caller audio that makes conversation impossible on that side
- The system may mute call audio altogether to protect the output stage
- Voice prompts unusually loud or harsh from the right side
- Fault logged while normal entertainment audio is unaffected
Likely causes
- Insulation rubbed through in the console harness, letting the audio wire touch a switched supply
- Water or spilled liquid in the connector bridging the audio pin to a power terminal
- Open circuit toward the radio or amplifier leaving the output unloaded
- Faulty input stage in the receiving audio unit no longer terminating the line
- Internal driver failure in the hands free module
- Aftermarket amplifier or interface pushing a signal back into the factory audio link
How to fix it
- Read the codes and use live data to confirm the high state is present with the ignition on
- Inspect the module connector for liquid damage, corrosion or a pin pushed across to a supply terminal
- Unplug the module and check whether battery voltage is present on the right audio wire; a signal line should never carry supply voltage
- Follow the harness behind the console and dash looking for chafe against brackets, screws and sharp edges
- Disconnect the radio or amplifier and watch whether the reading changes, separating a harness short from a load fault
- Repair the shorted wire and replace a damaged connector body instead of repinning a corroded terminal
- Replace the hands free module only after the wiring and the receiving audio unit have both been proven good
