What does it mean?
B1414 is a Body (airbags, seat belts, body electronics) fault code. It indicates: Driver Front Side Impact Sensor (FSIS) Wrong ID .
Symptoms
- Airbag warning lamp comes on straight after a repair or a parts change
- Driver side impact protection is inhibited even though the sensor appears to be connected
- The code returns immediately after clearing, always as a current fault
- Fault appears after a used or non original part has been fitted
- No warning at all before the repair, which points directly at the parts fitted
Likely causes
- A sensor of the wrong part number or specification level fitted at the driver front position
- Left and right, or front and rear, sensors installed in swapped positions during a repair
- Second hand sensor taken from a different model or equipment level
- Restraint control module replaced but never configured to the vehicle's build specification
- Corroded or high resistance connection corrupting the identification handshake
- Internal sensor fault causing it to report an invalid identifier
How to fix it
- Disconnect the battery and wait the specified discharge time before removing any sensor
- Read the part number printed on the fitted sensor and compare it with the number specified for this vehicle and this position
- Check that the driver and passenger sensors have not been swapped, and that a rear sensor has not been fitted at a front location
- If the control module was recently replaced, run the variant coding or configuration routine so it knows which sensors should be present
- Inspect the sensor connector for corrosion and confirm the lock is fully engaged, since a poor contact can corrupt the identifier
- Fit a new sensor of the exact specified part number rather than a salvage unit
- Clear the fault memory, run the restraint system self test and confirm the lamp extinguishes normally
