What does it mean?
B2514 is a Body (airbags, seat belts, body electronics) fault code. It indicates: External Tail Lamp RH Circuit Short to Ground .
Symptoms
- Right tail lamp stays dark while the left one lights
- Rear lighting fuse blows repeatedly
- Lamp-outage warning in the cluster, sometimes with a chime when the lights are turned on
- Brake or number plate lights on the same circuit may also drop out
- Function returns for a while after the housing dries out, then fails again
- Condensation or standing water visible inside the right tail lamp lens
Likely causes
- Water intrusion into the right tail lamp housing, filling the socket and bridging the contacts
- Corroded or burnt bulb socket where the feed contact has collapsed onto the ground shell
- Wiring damaged where the loom crosses the trunk lid or body hinge area and flexes every time the lid is opened
- Badly installed towing or trailer light harness spliced into the rear lighting circuit
- Bulb of the wrong type or a double-filament bulb rotated into the wrong socket position
- Pinched rear harness after bodywork, bumper removal or a rear-end repair
- Failed lamp driver in the rear body module
How to fix it
- Remove the right tail lamp assembly and check for trapped water, a perished lens gasket or blocked drain
- Inspect the socket and bulb base for green corrosion, melted plastic or a contact touching the shell
- Separate the tail lamp connector and measure resistance from the tail feed to ground to decide whether lamp or harness is at fault
- Flex the harness through the trunk lid or hinge grommet while watching a meter, looking for a wire broken and shorting inside the insulation
- Disconnect any trailer or accessory harness and retest with factory wiring only
- Replace the corroded socket, dry and reseal the housing, then clear the code and verify with the lights on
- Only after the circuit measures clean should the rear body module output be tested
