What does it mean?
B2516 is a Body (airbags, seat belts, body electronics) fault code. It indicates: Front Fog Lamp Circuit Short to Ground .
Symptoms
- Fog lamps do not come on, or only one side lights
- Fog lamp fuse blows as soon as the switch is pressed
- Fog lamp indicator on the dash lights but no light output at the bumper
- Fault appears after driving in rain, snow or through deep water
- Fog lamps flicker and then shut off permanently until the ignition is cycled
- Other lighting on the same fused feed may drop out at the same time
Likely causes
- Water, slush and road salt entering the fog lamp housing or connector and bridging the feed to the body
- Cracked or stone-chipped fog lamp lens letting water reach the bulb socket
- Wiring behind the bumper rubbed through against a bracket, or torn after a kerb or parking impact
- Corroded, green-crusted terminals in the fog lamp pigtail
- Shorted bulb or a failed LED fog module
- Damaged fog lamp relay or a shorted control wire between the relay and the lamps
- Retrofitted fog lamp kit wired without a fuse or a proper ground
How to fix it
- Look at both fog lamps from underneath for cracked lenses, missing seals, water inside or crash damage
- Check the fog lamp fuse and note whether it blows with the lamps unplugged, which separates lamp from harness
- Unplug each fog lamp and measure resistance from the feed wire to ground to find the shorted side
- Inspect the pigtails and connector pins for corrosion and clean or replace them rather than just adding grease
- Check the bumper harness routing for rub points and repair the insulation with sealed splices
- Swap or test the fog lamp relay and check its control wire for a short to ground
- Replace the fog lamp assembly if water damage is internal, then clear the code and test with the lights on
