What does it mean?
B2515 is a Body (airbags, seat belts, body electronics) fault code. It indicates: External Tail Lamp LH Circuit Short to Ground .
Symptoms
- Left tail lamp does not light with the headlamps or park lights on
- Fuse for the rear lighting circuit blows and takes other rear lamps with it
- Cluster shows a lamp-outage message or the rear lights work only intermittently
- Left side lights up briefly, then goes out as the module protects the output
- Water visible inside the left lens, sometimes with a rattling bulb inside
- Rear visibility complaints from other drivers at night
Likely causes
- Standing water or condensation inside the left tail lamp housing after a gasket or drain failure
- Corroded socket terminals that have swollen and shorted against the socket body
- Rear harness rubbed through where it passes a body seam, quarter panel edge or trunk hinge
- Rear lighting spliced for a tow bar, camper or accessory light and taped rather than sealed
- Overheated socket from running an oversized or incorrect bulb
- Damage from luggage or heavy cargo pressing on exposed wiring in the trunk
- Faulty output stage in the module driving the rear lamps
How to fix it
- Take out the left tail lamp assembly and check the seal, drains and the inside of the housing for water
- Examine socket contacts and the bulb base for corrosion, arcing marks or heat distortion
- With the lamp connector unplugged, measure from the tail lamp feed to ground; a low reading points at the harness
- Inspect the loom along the quarter panel and trunk hinge, moving it by hand while monitoring the meter
- Remove aftermarket taps in the rear lighting circuit and repair them properly with sealed connections
- Replace the socket or pigtail, dry the housing, reseal it and refit with the correct bulb type
- If the code sets again with a proven-good circuit, evaluate the rear lamp driver in the control module
