Can I keep driving?

Usually drivable, but get it diagnosed without delay.

First step

Command the solenoid on and off with the scan tool and listen or feel for it clicking

  • 7Powertrain (Other)
  • 19Sequence number

What does it mean?

P1719 is a Powertrain (engine, transmission, fuel system) fault code. It indicates: A/T Skip Shift Solenoid Control Circuit Malfunction .

Symptoms

  • MIL on
  • Skip shift lockout no longer working, or locking out gears when it should not
  • Shift indicator lamp behaving incorrectly
  • Driver forced into an unexpected gear during light throttle acceleration
  • No other driveability complaint in many cases
  • Fault that appears only when the function should be active

Likely causes

  • Open winding or internal short in the skip shift solenoid
  • Open, shorted or high-resistance wiring in the solenoid control circuit
  • Corroded or disconnected solenoid connector, which sits exposed near the transmission
  • Blown fuse or lost supply voltage to the solenoid
  • Module output driver failure
  • Harness chafing where the loom runs along the transmission or close to the exhaust
  • Solenoid mechanically stuck from debris, varnish or corrosion

How to fix it

  1. Command the solenoid on and off with the scan tool and listen or feel for it clicking
  2. Measure the solenoid winding resistance at its connector and compare with the specification
  3. Check the supply fuse and confirm battery voltage reaches the solenoid with the ignition on
  4. Test the control circuit for continuity to the module and for a short to ground
  5. Inspect the connector and harness for corrosion, chafing and heat damage from the exhaust
  6. Replace the solenoid if it is electrically open or will not respond to a command
  7. Repair the harness section, and consider the module output driver only after the circuit tests good
