What does it mean?
P3411 is a Powertrain (engine, transmission, fuel system) fault code. It indicates: Cylinder 2 Deactivation/Intake Valve Control Circuit Low . This is a standardised OBD-II code. The technical definition is the same regardless of the make or model of vehicle, although specific causes and symptoms can vary between vehicles.
Symptoms
- Malfunction indicator lamp on and the cylinder deactivation system disabled
- Valvetrain tick or tap around cylinder 2
- Misfire and rough running if the fault appears while the cylinder is switched off
- Reduced power and an unsteady idle
- Increased fuel consumption because the economy mode is not used
- The fault may be intermittent and appear with engine rock or over bumps
Likely causes
- Control wire chafed to ground against the valley cover, head or a bracket
- Solenoid winding shorted internally
- Oil-contaminated connector bridging the control pin to ground
- Harness pinched under the intake manifold or an engine cover
- Damaged terminal touching the connector shell
- Open or blown supply feeding the solenoid, making the circuit read low
- PCM low-side driver stuck on
How to fix it
- Check engine oil level and condition first, as this system is hydraulically operated
- Disconnect the solenoid and note whether the code changes to a high or open code
- Measure the solenoid winding resistance and its resistance to engine ground
- With the solenoid unplugged, test the control wire for continuity to ground along its route
- Inspect the connector for oil intrusion and repair the seal or pigtail if oil has entered
- Repair the shorted or pinched harness and re-route it clear of sharp edges
- Replace the solenoid if it tests shorted, then verify normal operation before considering the PCM
