What does it mean?
B1460 is a Body (airbags, seat belts, body electronics) fault code. It indicates: Channel 1 Audio Speaker Output Circuit Performance .
Symptoms
- Sound from the speaker on channel 1 is weak, distorted, crackling or buzzing
- Audio on that channel fades in and out, often when the door is opened and closed
- Balance and fader no longer place the sound where they should
- Amplifier may mute that channel for a while and then bring it back
- Code returns after being cleared, even though the speaker still makes some sound
Likely causes
- Speaker voice coil partly damaged or dried out, so its impedance has drifted out of range
- Aftermarket speaker with the wrong impedance fitted in place of the original
- Corroded or loose spade terminal on the speaker, adding resistance to the circuit
- Wire cracking inside the rubber boot between the body and the door, giving an intermittent load
- Moisture in the speaker basket after a leaking door membrane or window seal
- Amplifier output stage degrading on that channel
How to fix it
- Use the fader and balance controls with a steady tone or a familiar track to confirm which physical speaker is affected
- Remove the trim panel and inspect the speaker cone, surround and terminals for damage, corrosion and moisture
- Measure the DC resistance of the speaker at its own terminals and compare it with the value expected for the system
- Measure again at the amplifier connector for the same channel; a large difference points at the wiring in between
- Flex the harness in the door jamb boot while listening or watching a meter, to catch a broken strand
- Temporarily connect a known-good speaker at the amplifier end to decide between speaker, harness and amplifier
- Repair the harness or fit a speaker with the correct impedance, then clear the code and verify with the fader over a full drive cycle
- Consider the amplifier only after the speaker and wiring both test correct
