What does it mean?
B1462 is a Body (airbags, seat belts, body electronics) fault code. It indicates: Channel 1 Audio Speaker Output Circuit High .
Symptoms
- No sound, or a loud hum or pop, from the speaker on channel 1
- Amplifier may shut that channel down permanently until the fault is cleared
- Fuses for door electrics can blow when the contact is a hard short
- Trouble usually starts right after a stereo, speaker or door repair
- Code returns each time the audio system is switched on
Likely causes
- Speaker wire chafed against a powered circuit inside the door, such as a lock, window motor or lamp feed
- Aftermarket head unit or accessory wired so that a live wire was joined to a speaker lead
- One of the two output leads open, leaving the line floating at a high level
- Corroded connector adding resistance and lifting the measured level
- Water bridging a speaker pin to a live pin in a shared multi-pin connector
- Amplifier output stage failed and holding the line high
How to fix it
- Confirm which physical speaker belongs to the channel using the fader and balance controls
- Disconnect the amplifier connector and the speaker, then check both output wires for voltage with the ignition on; there should be none
- Note whether the voltage is permanent or only present with the ignition or lights on, to identify the feeding circuit
- Remove the door trim and inspect the loom for melted insulation, chafe against a powered wire and any non-factory splices
- Measure continuity of both output wires end to end to rule out an open leg on the pair
- Remove aftermarket taps, repair the damaged section and re-route it away from live wiring and moving glass
- Test with a known-good speaker at the amplifier end before condemning the amplifier
- Clear the code, cycle the ignition and confirm the channel works at normal volume
