What does it mean?
B1461 is a Body (airbags, seat belts, body electronics) fault code. It indicates: Channel 1 Audio Speaker Output Circuit Low .
Symptoms
- The speaker on channel 1 is silent or barely audible
- Amplifier may drop the channel or briefly mute the whole system to protect itself
- Sound quality on the remaining channels can change because the fader balance is lost
- A burning smell or a hot amplifier housing in a hard short
- Code sets again immediately after clearing
Likely causes
- Speaker output wire shorted to ground against door metal, a kick panel edge or a seat bracket
- Wire pinched behind a trim panel by a clip or screw during panel removal or an accessory installation
- Speaker voice coil partially shorted after being overdriven
- Aftermarket speaker of lower impedance than the amplifier expects on that channel
- Water entering the speaker connector or the door harness and creating a leakage path
- Amplifier output stage shorted internally on that channel
How to fix it
- Confirm by ear which speaker position is dead using the fader and balance settings
- Unplug the speaker and measure the resistance from each output wire to a clean chassis ground at the amplifier connector; a low reading with the speaker removed means the harness is shorted
- If the harness reads open to ground, measure the speaker itself; a value well below the specified impedance means a shorted voice coil
- Remove the door or panel trim and follow the wire for pinch points, screws, staples and chafe against sharp metal
- Check the door jamb boot and the speaker connector for water and corrosion
- Repair or replace the damaged wire, insulate and route it clear of moving parts and fasteners
- Fit a speaker with the correct impedance if a non-standard unit was installed
- Clear the code, run the system at normal volume and confirm the channel stays alive
