What does it mean?
B1464 is a Body (airbags, seat belts, body electronics) fault code. It indicates: Channel 1 Audio Speaker Output Circuit Shorted Together .
Symptoms
- The speaker on channel 1 goes completely silent
- Amplifier shuts the channel down or drops the whole system into protection mode for a moment
- Audio may cut out at higher volume and come back when the volume is lowered
- Amplifier housing runs warm after a period of play
- Code sets within seconds of switching the audio system on
Likely causes
- Loom crushed by a trim clip, screw or seat rail so both conductors touch inside the damaged section
- Insulation worn through where the pair passes over a sharp metal edge or through a body grommet
- Speaker terminals bridged by a bent spade connector or a stray strand of wire
- Water and corrosion inside a connector linking the two pins
- Aftermarket installation where the two leads were twisted together or joined at a bad splice
- Internal short in the speaker itself
- Damaged amplifier output stage giving the same reading
How to fix it
- Use fader and balance to confirm which speaker is affected
- Disconnect both ends of the circuit, then measure the resistance between the two output wires with the speaker unplugged; a near-zero reading proves a short in the harness
- If the harness is clean, measure across the speaker terminals and compare with the specified impedance to spot an internal short
- Remove trim along the route and look for crush marks, screws through the loom, chafe at grommets and previous repairs
- Inspect the connectors at both ends for bent spades, stray strands and green corrosion
- Repair the damaged section with proper insulation, then secure the loom so it cannot be pinched again
- Fit a new speaker only if the speaker itself measures shorted
- Clear the code, play the system at normal and high volume and confirm the channel stays on
